Does anarchy reign at the border? One of the most heated issues of the 2016 Presidential Election, immigration continues to be at the top of everyone’s mind with more and more debates surrounding refugees, travel bans, sanctuary cities, undocumented minors, and an increasingly scrutinized ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
According to Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA, President Trump has been “massively successful in deterring anarchy at the border.” Almost a year into a presidency that’s doing everything it legally can to combat the apparent chaos and violence at the border, Students For Liberty aims to reignite a discussion about the fundamental philosophical, political, and economic issues at play with immigration to provide greater insight into the problems facing so many.
If we wish to be humanitarians in times of crisis, we must first shake off the intellectual chains that so often obscure and frustrate policy debates and perhaps even radically reconsider what “anarchy at the border” entails. Only then will our new directive become clear.
